EPoS data from independent c-stores show further improvement on trading conditions in this important channel. All indicators – footfall, basket spend and store turnover this February were up vs. February 2018. However, footfall remained below the February 2017 level. This can be partly explained by the continuing impact of minimum cigarette and roll-your-own tobacco pack size implementation in May 2017.
February sales in c-stores were helped by the Rugby 6 Nations match between Wales and England on 23rd February: independent c-stores recorded the highest daily sales of Alcohol on 23rd and 22nd (+46% and +42% of the daily average Alcohol sales in February), Soft Drinks (+19% on 22nd and +15% on 23rd) and Tobacco (+18% on 22nd).
Not surprisingly, daily Confectionery sales were the highest on Valentine’s Day, +14% of the average daily Confectionery turnover in February.
